In order to compare the current solutions and find the “best” product for the removal of plastic from the waterways, a scoring criterion was devised. An advantage of this is that it would show where the different solutions excel which may be useful when designing our own solution. For each scoring criteria, a rating from one to five was assigned (with one being poor and five being excellent with respect to each of the scoring criteria). Once this had been completed a scoring matrix was then created that was capable of comparing all the different solutions with their respective ratings for each scoring criteria. By adding in criteria weightings, the criteria that were considered more important had a greater impact on the overall score of each solution. From this, it was possible of determining what product, in the group’s opinion, is the “best”.

From these results, the best aspects of each current design could be seen clearly. This data could then be considered whilst creating the new concept solutions.
