ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS TO THE "PLASTIC TIDE"
University of Strathclyde Masters of Engineering (MEng) Project
The following website has been created by Group C in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MEng Mechanical Engineering.
The project involved quantifying the extent of plastic pollution within the oceans, analysing current solutions to tackle the problem, and finally creating a new solution.

PROJECT DESCRIPTOR
We are a team of engineering students within the Mechanical and Aerospace department at The University of Strathclyde. As the topic of our final year group project, we have been tasked with developing a solution to stop plastic waste from entering the ocean. Due to the scale of the problem, it was first important to quantify the extent of the problem worldwide, and to identify where the majority of the plastic was coming from. From here, it was then important to analyse the current solutions currently in place to tackle the problem - these were then compared by the use of a Scoring Matrix. This matrix compared the most important characteristics of each such as the quantity of plastic able to be captured. The final task was then to use the data collected to create a new improved solution to be implemented within the worlds most polluted rivers - the areas in which the majority of plastic is entering the ocean.
